  • Northern Ireland Hospice has welcomed support of Councillor Helena Dallat O’Driscoll in regards to pay parity for Hospice staff.

Councillor Dallat O’Driscoll has written an emotional letter to Health Minister Robin Swann calling for pay parity for Hospice staff with their NHS counterparts.

Councillor Dallat O’Driscoll has written an emotional letter to Health Minister Robin Swann calling for pay parity for Hospice staff with their NHS counterparts.

In her letter to the Minister, the Causeway Coast and Glens Councillor detailed the ‘quality care’ that her father received at the end of his life by Northern Ireland Hospice and states that it is ‘essential’ that hospices in Northern Ireland are able to offer similar pay to keep and recruit high calibre staff.

Northern Ireland Hospice CEO, Heather Weir said she is grateful to Councillor Dallat O’Driscoll and the spokesperson for the SDLP, Colin McGrath MLA for their support. She hopes that the letter and personal testimony of Hospice care would highlight the ongoing inequality of Hospice funding.

She said: “Councillor Dallat O’Driscoll has eloquently conveyed her family’s first-hand experience of Hospice end-of-life care for her father, John, in her letter to the Health Minister.

“It is impossible without Government support for us to maintain the highest level of care services we currently provide to the people of Northern Ireland with our skilled, compassionate staff, and to retain them in this vital part of our health sector.

“We sincerely hope the Health Minister will take the time to read this letter and bring this issue to a positive conclusion for the benefit of not only Hospice staff, but for all of the people in Northern Ireland.”
