Our History

The very first Hospice Community Nurse started work in 1983.

Since then we have grown to become a leader in specialist palliative care providing high-quality, person-centred, holistic palliative care to 4,000 patients every year.

Adult & Children Hospice

Our Adult Hospice at Somerton House opened in 1985 and in 2001 we opened Northern Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice at Horizon House in Newtownabbey.

Care for Babies, Children & Adults

At both Adult and Children’s Hospice we provide care, both on site and in the local community. We support and care for babies, children and adults who are adjusting to life, living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. We provide specialist care for our patients who are coming to the end of their lives and we care for their families with emotional and psychological support. Our work continues after death with bereavement support to ensure families receive the help that they need to manage their grief.
