Organisational Summary 

Northern Ireland Hospice has been delivering palliative care to local people across Northern Ireland for over 35 years. Our hospice care services both in the community and in our buildings provide high quality, person-centred, holistic palliative care. We support and care for infants, children and adults who are adjusting to life living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, up to their death and into family bereavement support.

Our Vision 

Our vision is that infants, children and adults with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses and their families, receive palliative care of the highest standards, there by maximising their quality of life.

Our Mission 

Is to inspire and deliver excellent and compassionate specialist palliative care via effective service models underpinned by exemplary education, innovation and research.

Adult Service Statistics 

  • 3,747 adults cared for each year
  • Offer end of life, symptom management and specialist respite care
  • Support offered to wider family, both pre and post bereavement
  • Adults cared for in the home, in the IPU or in a combination of both dependant on circumstances
  • Approx. 45% of the £6.64m annual running costs are met by statutory funding 
  • Remaining costs met by combination of voluntary donations, grants and trading income

Children's Service Statistics 

  • Approximately 300 children cared for each year
  • Offer end of life, symptom management and specialist respite care
  • Support offered to wider family throughout the child’s life and into bereavement
  • Care offered in the home, at our facility ‘Horizon House’ in Newtownabbey or across a combination of both dependent on circumstance
  • £3.82 million per year to run children’s services
  • Approx. 35% of these costs met by statutory funding 
  • Remaining costs met by combination of voluntary donations, grants and trading income
