West Belfast family pay tribute to ovarian cancer campaigner Una Crudden on five-year anniversary

The family of avid ovarian cancer campaigner, Una Crudden are hosting a series of fundraising events over the coming months as they approach the fifth-anniversary of her passing.

The family of avid ovarian cancer campaigner, Una Crudden are hosting a series of fundraising events over the coming months as they approach the fifth-anniversary of her passing.

Una, who was cared for by NI Hospice in her final days, was a prolific campaigner for the Hospice, helping to raise vital awareness of Hospice services and generating much-needed funds for the new Adult Hospice which was built in 2016.

To commemorate Una, the family are hosting a Music Night in the Beechlawn Hotel, Dunmurray on Friday, 15th November which will feature a variety of entertainment, including Marty Fay Band, Brian Mckenna (swing music), and a Lionel Ritchie act with a very special surprise guest!

Una’s daughter, Grainne Smyth said: “The Hospice always holds a special place in our hearts.  The care my mum received in her final days was second to none.  Not just supporting and caring for mummy but also a great support to us, her children.  Providing a home from home where all our needs were met.  I would encourage anyone who wishes to support this fundraiser to buy a ticket, donate online or if you can offer a ballot prize please contact Michael Nugent, Regional Fundraiser at NI Hospice”.

Grainne’s daughter Una, 9, is also braving the shave for Hospice by cutting her hair to raise vital funds for the Hospice.

Michael Nugent, Regional Fundraiser at Northern Ireland Hospice, added: “We’re absolutely delighted and humbled that the Crudden family have decided to donate all proceeds from their fundraising events to NI Hospice. Una was a remarkable woman and well-respected within her local community and we’re indebted to her for her tireless fundraising efforts for the Hospice. Without the support of the Crudden family, and the local community, we couldn’t provide the specialist palliative care that local people desperately need".

Tickets for the event in the Beechlawn Hotel cost £10 per person and can be purchased by emailing Michael.nugent@nihospice.org or calling 07711377328.
