Families across Northern Ireland will have the opportunity to enjoy an exclusive weekend of entertainment from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th August, as Northern Ireland Hospice has partnered with Downeys Kia, Newtownwards and will be hosting a drive-in cinema event, located in the car dealerships forecourt in Newtownards.

The charity will be screening family-favourite movies, including Toy Story 3, Frozen 2, and Trolls, plus two additional adult screenings of Pitch Perfect 2 and Avengers End Game over the three-day period, with up to 400 cars expected to line-up.

Besides films, there will also be food and snacks available, and a raffle with some incredible prizes up for grabs!

Following the restrictions put on public life in the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, Downeys Kia had the idea to host an ‘outdoor cinema’ in a socially distanced compliant manner, at a time when many family friendly leisure outlets closed back in March 2020.

David McCulla, Director at Downing’s Kia and Sixt Rentacar, said: We are honoured to support Northern Ireland Hospice and Children’s Hospice this Summer, through the Drive in for Hospice Experience.”

“We are huge advocates of Hospice, and the incredible work they do, 365 days of the year! The current COVID-19 pandemic, has put a huge strain of fundraising for the charity, so we wanted to help them in any way possible, to try and provide new sources of income to ensure they can continue to care and support local people in the community living with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness.”

Lauren Doherty, Head of Marketing at Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, added: “We are delighted that Downeys Kia has chosen us as their event’s charity partner. Unfortunately, the outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in the Hospice’s fundraising events coming to a halt for the year. We are so grateful to Downeys Kia for partnering with us and for letting us use their premises to host the event. We look forward to welcoming families, friends and supporters of Hospice, over the three-day Bank Holiday weekend in August”.
