Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice has launched its annual 5k Rabbit Run and 1 Mile Bunny Hop event, backed by Specsavers, Abbeycentre,  which will see over 400 walkers and runners don their Easter fancy dress costumes as they run, walk or hop their way around Hazelbank Park, Newtownabbey on Sunday 5th April.

Northern Ireland Hospice’s dedicated children’s unit, Horizon House, is located just a few miles from Hazelbank Park and cares for more than 370 babies and children each year, offering supported short stays, palliative and end-of-life care.  Northern Ireland Hospice also cares for babies and children in the community, right across Northern Ireland, through their team of 5 specialist nurses.

Lauren Doherty, Head of Marketing and Events at Northern Ireland Hospice, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to bring this fun-filled event back to Hazelbank Park. Whether you’re a seasoned pro training for your next challenge, or maybe you’ve just completed your Couch to 5K Programme, the event promises to be a fantastic day out.

“If you can’t make it on the day, we’re also offering a virtual run where runners can run anywhere at any time, at their own pace, and still receive one of our fabulous Rabbit Run medals. If you’ve participated in the event before, you’ll know that the event is renowned for its quirky medals”.

Tony McGinn, Optometry Director at Specsavers said: “The team at Abbycentre Specsavers has supported this fabulous event for several years and we’re thrilled to once again be part of the action and help the Children’s Hospice raise some much-needed cash. The Rabbit Run has a wonderful atmosphere as families and friends of all ages come together to challenge themselves and enjoy the craic running or walking together.”

All Rabbit Run and Bunny Hop participants, including the virtual entries, will receive a race pack, commemorative medal and ribbon. Participants can also register for the event on the day.
