Health Minister's visit to Hospice

We were delighted to recently welcome the Health Minister for Northern Ireland, Mike Nesbitt MLA, for an overview of both Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice (NICH) and Northern Ireland Hospice.

The Minister and his party were greeted at Horizon House by NI Hospice’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Trevor McCartney, and Dr Gerry Millar MBE, Chair Board of Trustees, and Ian Sheppard, Chair Elect Board of Trustees. The guests were then given a guided tour of the NICH facilities by Head of Children’s Services Grace Stewart, including an opportunity to meet some of the children and their parents.

Afterwards the group headed to Somerton House to view the Adult In-Patients Unit led by Gemma Aspinall, Acting Director and Head of Adult Services, where the Minister met and chatted to patients and staff.

All of those attending were clearly impressed by the professionalism of Hospice’s staff, as they commented on the excellent quality of care being offered to babies, children and adults with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.
