Care For The Family

We provide a range of support for the whole family.

We recognize that many families will be caring for their child over many months or even years and this can take its toll on the wider family’s physical health and emotional wellbeing.

Support is available through our ‘Key Workers’ and our ‘Family Support Service’. Each family cared for by hospice will have an identified key worker who will support them throughout their journey with hospice.  Our Family Support Service provides a range of supports for individual family members and in groups across Northern Ireland. This includes drop in coffee mornings, parents support groups, groups for brothers and sisters and dedicated dads groups.

These groups provide a safe space for family members to meet other families facing similar experiences and challenges and to develop support networks and additional coping skills.

Some of these groups can be activity or arts based to allow families to express themselves in the way that best suits them.

In this video, Ann talks about what is available for families through the NICH Family Support Service.

‘"Families, feel lonely after losing a child and that can be very difficult to navigate on your own. Our family support team provide someone to talk to and listen to what they’re experiencing, we provide bereavement counselling, group and individual support".’ Ann Lappin, Family Support Team Leader (1)
