Gala Ball works its magic for Children’s Hospice

A spectacular Harry Potter–themed gala evening in support of the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice was held at Queen’s University on 4 October 2025, when the vision, dedication, and hard work of the Ball’s organising committee (aka The Gala Team) all came together to achieve something truly extraordinary.

Thanks to their tireless efforts and passion for the cause, the event raised an incredible £76,078, a sum that will make a profound difference to the children and families who rely on the Hospice’s vital respite and palliative care services.

The Gala Team – Connie McConville, Jenny Cooke, Margaret Annett/Hartt, and Iris Pendergast – with NI Hospice's Chief Income Officer Conal Duffy.

The evening itself was nothing short of magical. Hosted amidst enchanting literary décor, guests enjoyed a Michelin‑star meal, stunning performances from West End singers and Irish dancers, and even a special video message of support from Liam Neeson. A heartfelt conversation on stage between Kathy Clugston, Grace Stewart (Director of Care and Quality Governance for Children’s Services), and Vivienne Jess – whose daughter Ashleigh was lovingly cared for at the Hospice – brought home the importance of the work being supported and the real lives changed because of it.

The Gala Team – Connie McConville, Jenny Cooke, Margaret Annett/Hartt, and Iris Pendergast – went above and beyond in every aspect of planning and delivery. These remarkable women secured sponsorship for food, wine, and an array of raffle prizes, ensuring the evening was both memorable and impactful. Their commitment, creativity, and generosity of spirit are the reason this event succeeded so brilliantly.

Sincere thanks are also due to Hannah Jess of Callow Events, whose expert event management helped bring the Gala Team’s vision to life with precision and professionalism. The Gala Ball formed an important part of the 2025 Ballyscullion Book Festival, where the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice also benefited from further public fundraising – another testament to the community’s compassion and support.

Together, this dedicated group of women, partners, and supporters created not just an event, but an unforgettable celebration of kindness, creativity, and community spirit. Their outstanding achievement will leave a lasting legacy for some of Northern Ireland’s most vulnerable children and the families who love them.
