Craig Gilroy tackles new charity role for NICH
Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice is delighted to announce former Ireland and Ulster rugby star Craig Gilroy as its newest Ambassador.
Craig, who retired from professional rugby a couple of years ago, has long been admired for his commitment both to the sport and to the community. Now a proud father himself, Craig was inspired to support the local palliative care charity after taking part in the recent Hospice Hockey fundraising event organised by the Belfast Giants’ Odyssey Trust.
Speaking about his new role, Craig Gilroy said: “I’m honoured to stand beside this amazing charity and to help raise awareness and essential funds in any way I can.
“The work that Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice does to support children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions – and their families – is nothing short of incredible. Becoming a dad a couple of years ago changed my entire perspective and after getting involved in Hospice Hockey, I knew that I wanted to do more.
“Grace Stewart, the Head of Children’s Hospice Services, has already given me a guided tour of all the facilities at Horizon House, to see the passion and care first-hand. I also really enjoyed taking part in last weekend’s Dragon Boat Race in aid of Hospice, and soon I will be officially opening the Cregagh Road Hospice shop in East Belfast – just around the corner from my old Ulster Rugby stomping ground!”

Emma McManus, Care Team Manager at Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, welcomed Craig to the team: “We are thrilled to have Craig Gilroy join us as an Ambassador.
“His genuine compassion, personal connection as a young parent, and public profile will give us a fantastic boost and help us reach more people with our message. Ultimately Craig’s support will make a real difference to the lives of the children and families we care for.”
Craig will be supporting several upcoming campaigns and events, including the Hospice’s Little Stars 2025 Christmas Appeal and community outreach initiatives.
