Farewell to Hospice’s outgoing Chair, Dr Gerry Millar MBE

NI Hospice recently bid a fond farewell to Dr Gerry Millar, who has stepped down from his volunteer role as the Chair of Hospice’s Board of Trustees.

Gerry’s tireless commitment to Northern Ireland Hospice – including three years as Chair, and eight years as a Trustee – was honoured with an informal gathering hosted by incoming Chair Ian Sheppard, who gave a short speech. Both CEO Trevor McCartney and Director of Care and Quality Governance Gemma Aspinall also paid tribute, before Gerry said a few words of farewell and thanks.

Gerry was then given a planted flower basket (put together by Occupational Therapist Nicola Gallagher and decorated by Creative Lead Chris Condie) for Gerry to plant in his garden. Gerry's wife Bernie was also presented with a bouquet of flowers, before Gerry and his family also took a walk around the Adults’ In-Patient Unit in Somerton House to say their personal goodbyes.

Among the many personal tributes, Gerry was presented with an online farewell card, with Hospice staff and volunteers using the opportunity to say goodbye to him by sharing short video messages, notes of thanks, anecdotes and favourite memories of working with Gerry over the years.

Hospice says a huge thanks to Gerry for all the years of dedicated service to Northern Ireland Hospice, and wishes Gerry the very best of luck for the future!
