NI Hospice launches “Time Well Spent” campaign to recruit new Ballymena shop volunteers

Northern Ireland Hospice has launched a new campaign – Time Well Spent – to recruit 30 new volunteers for its Ballymena Hospice Shop.

The campaign highlights the vital role shop volunteers play in raising funds for specialist Hospice care for babies, children and adults across Northern Ireland. With flexible opportunities starting from just one hour a week, the Hospice hopes to attract people of all ages who want to make a difference in their community.

Volunteers help with tasks such as serving customers, sorting donations, creating displays, and chatting with shoppers. In addition to supporting local families, the shops also play a key role in sustainability, recycling and reusing hundreds of tonnes of pre, loved items every year and keeping them out of landfill.

Alan Kennedy, Head of Retail at Northern Ireland Hospice, said: “Our shops simply couldn’t operate without the dedication of our volunteers. In Ballymena, we urgently need more people to join the team – even giving just an hour a week makes a huge impact. Volunteering is rewarding, social, and flexible, and it’s a brilliant way to support local Hospice care while also helping the environment. We’d encourage anyone who has some time to spare to consider joining us.”

To encourage people to get involved, the Ballymena Hospice Shop will also host Volunteer Open Days on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th September, from 11am-3pm. The events will give prospective volunteers the chance to meet the team, find out more, and enjoy a cup of tea while exploring what’s involved.

Anyone interested in volunteering can drop into the shop, attend the Open Days, or sign up online at www.nihospice.org/shopvolunteer
