Local book festival raises money for Children’s Hospice
The 2025 Ballyscullion Park Book Festival recently raised a fantastic £1,600 for its chosen charity this year – Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.
The festival, which was held during a glorious weekend in early May, featured a programme of literary events including panel discussions, readings and music in the picturesque surroundings of Ballyscullion Park near Bellaghy in mid-Ulster.
The event, which began in 2024, had a line-up of new and returning authors, children’s writers, opinion formers, historians, poets, musicians and artists. There was a wonderful energy and bustle as people connected, listened, talked and enjoyed the hospitality.
This year, the festival was proud to announce a partnership with NI Children’s Hospice. Attendees generously donated and a percentage of profits from ticket sales was made to the charity, with a fantastic total of £1,600 being raised.

Festival director Rosalind Mulholland said: “Ballyscullion Park Book Festival was thrilled to partner with the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice this year. The festival exceeded all expectations, with the attendees, the authors and the speakers all telling us how much they enjoyed this literary and musical feast.
“We are delighted to be able to contribute to the Children’s Hospice – the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland – and are committed to having the charity as our partner again in 2026.”
Leo Donaghy, Philanthropy Manager at NI Hospice, commented: “We are so grateful to Rosalind and her team at the Ballyscullion Book Festival for choosing Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice as their partner in 2025. I attended and spoke at the festival and it was a wonderful event for the visitors.
“The £1,600 raised will go towards our specialised care and support for local children with life-limiting and life-threatening illness. We want to say a special thanks to everyone who raised money over the weekend.”
