Family Support

Caring for a child with a life-limiting illness can sometimes be challenging, isolating and frightening.

Our Team provides social, emotional, and practical support for siblings, parents, carers, and the wider family to be there for them when they need our help.

Our Team

The Family Support Team are a key component of our multidisciplinary team. The team is made up of Social Workers and Family Support Workers who provide support for families who have a child with palliative care needs from managing family dynamics through to complex grief.

Some of our care services includes:

Sibling Support

Sibling support is a key element of our work with dedicated sessions to support the resilience, confidence and wellbeing of the siblings, who as carers as well as brothers and sisters need this support in their daily lives.

Virtual Support

As part of the Family Support Service, we have created a private Facebook Group specifically for families of children who use Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice services.

Bereavement Support

Bereavement Support

We provide one-to-one and group-based bereavement support for the whole family, including siblings, for up to two years after a child's death.

We help families come to terms with their loss, assist in practical matters and give specialist, individual support.

We will always be happy to talk with a family about their child and will be in regular contact, particularly in the early weeks following a child’s death.
