CastleCourt Shopping Centre has expanded its ongoing collaboration with Northern Ireland Hospice by choosing the organisation as one of its charity partners for 2022 and becoming a Supporting Partner for Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail.
The shopping centre will host a unique space which will act as ‘Elmer’s HQ’ as part of the art event, where visitors can enjoy fun interactive workshops led by local creative artists in one of the retail units. As part of the partnership, CastleCourt has also sponsored its own Elmer sculpture that will make up part of the forthcoming trail.
CastleCourt has been a long-standing partner of NI Hospice, supporting the charity with a permanent retail store in the shopping centre for six years. The shopping centre has also worked on high profile fundraising events for the charity such as a Jail Break adventure challenge, as well as now choosing NI Hospice as one of its charity partners.
Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail is set to be a huge, elephant-sized success in Belfast in June, as a herd of uniquely-decorated Elmer sculptures – inspired by David McKee’s best-selling book, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant – will appear across the city for ten weeks. CastleCourt is the latest sponsor to join the herd and play its part in this amazing trail, which also marks 21 years of care at Children’s Hospice.
The family-friendly event, organised by NI Hospice in partnership with Wild in Art and Andersen Press, will be completely free for everyone to enjoy.
Leona Barr, Centre Manager at CastleCourt, said: “NI Hospice provides vital services to communities in Belfast and across Northern Ireland, and after many years of support with the retail store in our centre, we’re thrilled to officially welcome the organisation as our charity partner for 2022.
“Our retailers and management team are hugely engaged to bring a wealth of support and fundraising for NI Hospice in the coming months, and we look forward to bringing some colour to the mall with Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail. We have provided a new unit to house the workshops for the artists who will bring their Elmers to life, and we know our visitors will be supportive of the initiative that celebrates and supports the organisation’s fantastic work in Northern Ireland.”
Neil Fowler, Head of Retail at Northern Ireland Hospice, commented: “CastleCourt has been hugely supportive of Hospice for many years and we are delighted they have joined the celebrations by signing up to Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail.
“Our ongoing partnership over the years has been significant in helping to raise vital funds for the specialist palliative care offered by NI Hospice to local families.”
