Belfast family pay tribute to beloved funeral director Hugh Dougal
A Belfast family has raised an amazing £12,000 for NI Hospice by hosting a Charity Golf Day in Ballycastle in memory of beloved Hugh Dougal.
Mr Hugh Dougal, Proprietor of O'Kane's funeral directors on Donegall Street Belfast, handing the reins to son Hugh, passed away suddenly last year following a short illness surrounded by family and friends at Northern Ireland Hospice.
As a befitting tribute to Hugh, and his love for golf, (where he would often head off to Ballycastle to play golf every weekend in retirement), family and friends hosted the ‘Hugh Dougal Memorial Charity Golf Tournament’ on Saturday, 22nd June to help raise vital funds for the Hospice.
Cathy Dougal, Hugh’s daughter said: “On behalf of our family, we would like to thank everyone who attended our Golf Day event and for all your amazing support, extremely generous donations and prizes which made this such a prestigious event creating very special memories along the way . Without you, we couldn’t have raised this outstanding amount & we loved all of your support “
Noreen Kennedy, Regional Fundraising Manager at Northern Ireland Hospice added: “Hosting a Charity Golf Day is a fitting way to commemorate the life of Hugh and we’re absolutely delighted to be the beneficiary this amazing donation. Hospice care is free to patients and their families, however, its costs £15.5 million per annum to provide our services. With limited government funding, we rely heavily on the support of local families, like Cathy’s, to provide our vital service”.
