The Accounting Technician will work as part of the Finance Team to ensure all finance team tasks are performed in a timely and accurate manner.

The Role
The Accounting Technician will work as part of the Finance Team to ensure all finance team tasks are performed in a timely and accurate manner. The post holder will perform month end activities and monthly reconciliations for appropriate control accounts and investigate and take appropriate action to clear any reconciling items. The post holder will assist with the preparation of year-end audit file, financial statements and in the annual budgeting process. The role will include assisting with auditing data and comparing upload of data in relation to finance system amendments.  The post holder will assist in processing expenditure on the finance systems in an accurate and timely manner by providing cover for other finance staff as required.

Salary:                             £28,000 to £33,000 dependent on experience

Essential Criteria
  • Qualified Accounting Technician (or Equivalent) plus at least 2 year’s relevant post-qualification experience obtained in the last 5 years.
  • Experience to include:
    • Assisting Head of Finance/Finance Manager and auditors with preparation of year-end audit files, accounts and audit detailed testing.
    • Completing month end processes to a tight deadline.
    • Compliance work (both external such as annual returns and internal such as compliance with finance team deadlines).
    • Preparing or assisting with the preparation of analysis of figures as required by other departments.
    • Completing balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Processing purchase orders/invoices on a computerised accounting system and supplier payment runs.
  • Excellent computer skills (databases, spreadsheets, word-processing, e-mail and internet).
  • Excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and manage own multiple workloads.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the aims and charitable objective of the NI Hospice.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of data cleansing or data auditing on migration to new systems.
  • Experience of using Opera/Compleat.
