Local businesses’ support for Hospice’s £500k Christmas fundraising appeal
Representatives from PwC, Tesco, Translink and Aquatwist were among the top local businesses who recently came together for a special event organised by Northern Ireland Hospice, entitled ‘Christmas Starts With Care’.
Hosted in PwC’s spectacular offices in Belfast city centre, the event saw the charity’s corporate partners mix with its service users, care staff, fundraisers, and volunteers, to hear about the launch of Hospice’s Christmas fundraising plans.
Chief Income Officer Conal Duffy was seeking the support both of the public and of the local business community, as he outlined the Hospice’s ambitious target to raise £500k from its various Christmas campaigns – including its Festive 5k run, the Lights to Remember and Little Stars appeals, as well as the annual Tesco in-store collection, and this year’s 50th Black Santa Sit-out in aid of NI Children’s Hospice.
Other speakers included PwC’s Benny Miskelly, who introduced proceedings, before Translink CEO Gerard Carlin discussed his organisation’s three-year charity partnership with Hospice; while the Dean of Belfast, the Very Rev Stephen Forde, shared details of his fundraising plans to celebrate 50 years of the Black Santa Sit-out and 25 years of NI Children’s Hospice.
Ballymena Support Group volunteer Elaine McBride also revealed the impact for her son of receiving Children’s Hospice care; and Occupational Therapist Nicola Gallagher outlined the difference that Hospice’s support makes for the quality of life of adult patients.
A choir from Cedar Lodge Special School provided the gathered audience with some musical entertainment to round off the successful event.
