The need for hospice care continues to grow and is expected to increase even more in the future, not just for people with cancer related illnesses, but also for people with other illnesses, such as Motor Neurone Disease, Chronic Heart Disease and Parkinson’s disease.
In order to ensure that future generations receive the care they need, Northern Ireland Hospice is taking forward plans to modernise our facilities and strengthen services over the next 5 years both in hospice and in the community. Our future plans include a new adult hospice facility at Somerton House and a new children’s hospice centre in Fermanagh and Tyrone, and a new facility for young adults
There is also a need to extend and develop the lessons learnt in hospice and palliative care into wider disease groups, looking beyond cancer to ensure that patients with non-malignant disease for example, respiratory and neurological conditions and older people in care homes are enabled to die well.
